Master’s and Executive Programs

The rapid growth in the size and quality of Brown’s professional schools — including the School of Engineering, School of Public Health, Warren Alpert Medical School and the School of Professional Studies — along with the strong connections among these and other academic units and industry partners, offer Brown an opportunity to expand both early- and mid-career professional master’s programs.

Investments in the past two years in the School of Professional Studies have already expanded capacity in marketing and recruitment, and in student support for master’s students. Restructuring in the School of Professional Studies has also improved the quality of mid-career professional master’s programs by deepening partnerships with other professional schools for curricular oversight and program development.

Charge

The Master’s and Executive Programs Work Group is charged with expanding the number of programs and enrollments in master’s and executive programs offered across the institution, with specific goals to:

  • increase the annual number of entering early-career master’s students in traditional arts and sciences programs under the Dean of the Faculty by 30-50% by academic year 2022-23;
  • increase enrollments in executive master’s programs by 75% of 2017-2019 enrollment by academic year 2022-23; and
  • add 10 new non-degree executive education offerings by academic year 2022-23.

Initial Planning Efforts

The School of Professional Studies has successfully advanced toward meeting these goals in academic year 2021-22, including:

  • increasing enrollment in early-career master’s programs in traditional arts and sciences programs under the Dean of the Faculty by 50% by the spring 2021 admissions cycle;
  • increasing enrollments in executive master’s programs by 60% for the fall 2021 semester; and
  • adding five new non-degree executive education programs.
