Program on Innovation and Financial Sustainability

Winter, Summer and Pre-College Programs

Growth in online education provides an opportunity to further expand Brown’s offerings for high school students across the U.S. and internationally.

Brown’s pre-college programs are among the most well regarded in the country. Adding courses in the summer and winter, taught by Brown faculty and serving primarily Brown students, creates flexibility and opportunities for innovation for students and faculty. It further serves to release some pressure on enrollments in fall and spring terms.

Charge

The Winter, Summer and Pre-College Work Group is charged with increasing credit-bearing undergraduate courses offered in summer and Wintersession and growing enrollments to at least 300 students in winter and between 800 and 1,000 students in summer by academic year 2023-24.

Initial Planning Efforts

The Division of Pre-College and Summer Undergraduate Programs successfully grew online student enrollments in winter and summer courses during the pandemic to 300 in academic year 2019-20 and over 800 in academic year 2020-21.
